Can these Smartwatches Measure Accurate Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure monitoring is a great addition to smartwatches to keep cardiovascular health in check consistently. Considering that smartwatches rely on sensors to measure blood pressure, the results may vary every time with different accuracy.

From the list above, only a few options like the Samsung Galaxy Watch have reliable sensors to measure Blood Pressure. And despite that, they need to be calibrated with a physical BP machine every four weeks which shows the complexity of measuring blood pressure from your wrist.

If your primary goal for buying a smartwatch is to measure blood pressure on the go, we’d prefer smartwatches with a dedicated inflatable handcuff like Omron Heartguide (received FDA clearance) and Huawei Watch D. The options from Samsung, too, would work fine if you’re ready to calibrate them in the given time frame.

Having said that, the accuracy of blood pressure monitoring on smartwatches can only be reliable for personal information purposes and not for medical purposes. Moreover, the budget smartwatches from Fire-boltt and Cross beats are to be taken with a pinch of salt when gauging the readings.

Here’s our detailed editorial on why smartwatches cannot measure blood pressure and the truth about it.
